IDD therapy for back pain and disc problems in Berkhamsted

Why choose IDD therapy

Typical candidates for IDD Therapy are people who have disc related back or neck pain and may have tried various other treatments without success. They may be taking pain medication and may be considering invasive treatments such as injections or in extreme cases, disc surgery.

  • Current treatment is not working
  • Want to stop taking painkillers
  • Seeking long-term pain relief
  • Want to return to normal daily activities

The objectives of IDD therapy

Treatment are as follows:

  • Improve the health of the intervertebral disc
  • Rehabilitate supporting muscles and ligaments
  • Realign spinal structures
  • Release pressure on nerves

How does IDD Therapy work

Many back pain conditions are located at a particular level in the spine. With IDD Therapy we use computer-controlled pulling forces delivered by the SPINA medical devices to gently distract(draw apart) targeted segments of the spine in order to take pressure off specific discs and nerves whilst at the same time, gently stretching tight muscles and stiff ligaments.

By decompressing (taking pressure off) an injured or bulging disc and stretching the soft tissues, we can improve mobility in the spine and allow the body’s natural healing mechanisms to operate more efficiently. In so doing, we can relieve pain caused by muscle spasm and alleviate nerve compression and irritation caused by bulging discs.

Treating a herniated disc with IDD therapy: a personal experience

Tim Hanwell, Berkhamsted Osteopaths Clinic Director and IDD clinician, shares how his personal treatment experience for a painful herniated disc

Tim_Hanwell_OsteopathI first saw the benefits of IDD Therapy the hard way! I was suffering with a herniated disc which was having a negative impact on my work as an osteopath, to put it mildly. Many colleagues have treated me over the years and whilst helpful, at the stage I was at, I couldn’t find anything which was really getting to my pain.
Things were getting so bad that in 2013 I went to see a spinal surgeon I know. Despite my pain, he was still reluctant to operate at my age as a spinal fusion was the only solution. He recommended that I should leave it a while longer before making the decision.

I researched different treatment methods and came across IDD Therapy. It was still quite new in the UK. I had trust in the osteopaths I knew who were using it and had treatment with Sally Lansdale of Spinex Disc Clinic. My relief wasn’t immediate but as treatment progressed, my pain eased, my sleep got better and my mobility improved significantly. After a course of IDD Therapy treatment I was completely pain free and which gave me a new lease of life and the confidence to get back to exercise.

At the time we didn’t have space for an Accu SPINA (IDD machine) at our Hertfordshire clinic, but after moving at the end of 2015, the first thing on the list was to bring IDD Therapy to the clinic. We can now offer our patients a complete spectrum of non-invasive treatment for disc related conditions such as herniated discs, bulging discs, prolapsed discs and slipped discs

IDD Therapy patients testimonials

“My whole quality of life has changed following the IDD treatment and I am now 99% pain free without the use of any pain relief”
– John Coughtrey, Hemel Hempstead

“My experience of IDD is that it is very different from other treatments.  The machine is relaxing. Now I am a lot better and glad I had the treatments. I was being treated for lower back pain with tingling and numbness to the lower legs. I found the staff caring and professional and would recommend giving IDD a try”
