IDD therapy offers chronic back pain sufferer a way to smile again

Until recently, John Coughtrey from Felden, Hemel Hempstead, had been suffering from chronic back pain. Traditional treatments had proven ineffective or too invasive, coming with major risks. Despite being a relatively new treatment, John opted to try Intervertebral Differential Dynamics (IDD) Therapy, which has changed his life.

“The extent of the pain had left me feeling desperate and at my wits end,” said John. “I would often say to my wife that I did not believe I would ever walk without chronic pain again.”

Having undergone two sessions of spinal injections with little success, John was offered the opportunity to undergo invasive surgery, but there was no guarantee of success and a possible risk of full paralysis. Despite John’s craving to be pain free, he did not want to put his wife through the worry of the operation or the possibility of her having to care for his every need for the rest of his life.

Having seen an article in his local newspaper, John decided to visit Tim Hanwell at Berkhamsted Osteopaths, who had recently installed a new IDD treatment system.  During the free half-hour consultation, Tim explained how the IDD machine worked and the treatment plan. Given John’s lack of progress in other forms of treatment he decided to give it a try.

After the 10 sessions of IDD Therapy, the change was remarkable:

“My whole quality of life has changed following the IDD treatment and I am now 99% pain free without the use of any pain relief,” said John. “My profession is that of an autism specific recreational support practitioner –  a job which I absolutely love and was in danger at having to retire from due to an inability to walk or drive any distances. My employer ‘Trips and Treats’ had been very understanding of my limitations due to the chronic back pain but I am now able to fulfil my role and I am happy and able to smile once more.”

While IDD Therapy is the fastest growing non-surgical spinal treatment with over 1,000 clinics worldwide, it is still relatively new to the UK where there are still only 27 clinics.  Berkhamsted Osteopaths has opened the first dedicated targeted disc treatment centre in Herts, Beds and Bucks.
Results show that a complete programme of treatment using the IDD Therapy system offers significant improvement in pain and function in up to 92%* of patients.
